Construction Site in Schagen Officially Started

On Thursday, November 23, the festive ‘first’ pile was driven for the new construction site at De Lus in Schagen, under the watchful eye of interested parties and those involved. At this location, HomeFlex is developing apartments for rental to migrant workers. Alderman Simco Kruijer gave the official start signal for the construction. Alderman Simco Kruijer: “The construction of this housing for migrant workers emphasizes the importance of decent and suitable housing for everyone in our community. Migrant workers play an essential role in our society and economy. The realization of this building was a joint effort, with the collaboration with the sounding board group being invaluable.”

In the Schagen area, many migrant workers are employed in the agricultural sector. Approximately 300 migrant workers will soon be housed at this location on De Lus. In the apartments, each resident will have their own bedroom, while the living room, kitchen, and bathroom will be shared.

HomeFlex and Ursem Modulaire Bouwsystemen (UMBS) are the initiators of this complex. UMBS is the builder of the modular apartments. HomeFlex is the owner and manager. A manager will be appointed to serve as a point of contact for residents, maintain the houses and surroundings, and ensure a good living environment for the residents.

For HomeFlex, this is the sixth location to be realized. In 2017, a similar complex was opened in the municipality of Katwijk. This concept has also been realized in the municipalities of Westland, Terneuzen, Vlaardingen, Sluiskil, and Zeewolde. Preparations for similar housing locations are underway in several other municipalities in the Netherlands.
