Solution for Suitable Housing for Migrant Workers
04 September 2023

In the already tight housing market, finding suitable accommodation for migrant workers is a huge challenge. On September 21, we are organizing a Round Table Discussion where, together with guests from government and business, we will search for existing and innovative solutions for housing the large group of migrant workers.

The fact is that much work currently could not be done without migrant workers. The number of migrant workers in the Netherlands is large and growing. Estimates range from 700,000 to 900,000. They too need somewhere to live. Often, they now live invisibly, in undesirable locations and under poor conditions.

In October 2020, the Roemer Commission issued the much-discussed advice ‘No Second-Class Citizens: Recommendations to Counter Abuses of Migrant Workers in the Netherlands.’ In other words: provide decent housing.

But in the already tight housing market, finding suitable accommodation for migrant workers is an enormous challenge. Solid registrations hardly exist, and are actually not possible, because do you really register with the foreign municipality where you are going to work for a few months?

The meeting is organized by Platform31, Mosaic World and HomeFlex. In the round table discussion, we will search together with you for existing and innovative solutions for housing the large group of migrant workers.

We cordially invite you to attend this meeting and share your knowledge and experiences with others during the discussions.
