HomeFlex and Bio Brass Open Location in Zeewolde
04 October 2024

On Thursday, October 3rd, Bio Brass and HomeFlex opened the new housing for colleagues from abroad, where a total of 16 homes have been realized. These homes provide accommodation for 64 employees of Bio Brass. The festive opening was performed by Councilor H. Hermans by planting a tree in the adjacent food forest.

Bio Brass’s mission is to make good and tasty food available to everyone – while maintaining a good living environment. A good connection in the chain is crucial for this. This includes good housing for employees from abroad. The expertise and goal of HomeFlex to promote good quality housing fits perfectly with this. HomeFlex realizes residential locations for foreign personnel through modular construction. These homes meet the quality requirements of SNF (Foundation for Standardization of Flexible Housing) and the recommendations of the Roemer commission, including sufficient living space and a private bedroom for each resident.

Sustainability
In the realization of the homes, natural materials with a high degree of circularity were chosen. The homes have been constructed with insulation values far above the norm and a design that fits into the rural environment. Due to grid congestion, a semi-off-grid solution has been created. With one small-consumer connection, supplemented by solar panels, small wind turbines, a large battery, and air-source heat pump technology, heating and hot water are provided. An Energy Management System controls the operation. For drinking water, a temperature-regulated buffer system has been designed, and wastewater is biologically and naturally broken down through a helophyte filter.

Food Forest
A one-hectare food forest is being established around the housing. In addition to enhancing the livability for residents, this is also a step towards bringing more biodiversity back to the local landscape. This contributes to Bio Brass’s mission of providing good and tasty food while maintaining a beautiful living environment.
